Rekeying versus replacement
Rekeying is a strong choice when the locks are in good condition and the main problem is key control. Replacement makes more sense when hardware is damaged, worn out, mismatched or due for a security upgrade.
Can multiple locks use one key?
Often they can, provided the cylinders are compatible. Keying several doors alike reduces the number of keys you carry. Businesses may instead benefit from a master-key system that gives different people different levels of access.
Make key control part of the plan
Count the new keys, decide who receives each one and avoid labeling keys with the property address. For businesses, document issued keys and recover them promptly when access responsibilities change.
